2024-2025 Women’s Basketball Season Recap

A Season of triumph and growth

The 2024–2025 season was a landmark year for the Rancho Christian Eagles girls’ basketball team. Under the guidance of Head Coach Marlon Wells and Assistant Coach H. Williams, the Eagles achieved a 29-6 overall record (8-2 league), culminating in a CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship victory over Brentwood, 58–48, at Toyota Arena in Ontario, CA.

Championship Redemption

Assistant Coach Williams described the season as “successful,” noting that while the team fell short in league and state competitions, winning the CIF title was a significant accomplishment. “It felt like redemption,” he said. “The seniors were especially motivated, and it was a big-time win that fulfilled our expectations.”

Standout Performers

Senior, Point Guard, Julia Wilson (CIFSS Division 1 Player of the Year, Los Angeles Times All-Star Team, All-League Player), who has committed to Gonzaga, led the team with an average of 26.7 points and 7.8 assists per game during the playoffs. Her leadership on and off the court was instrumental in the team's success.

Senior, Forward, Hailey Whitman, known for her leadership and defensive capabilities, Whitman was a cornerstone of the team's interior play. Her ability to rebound, block shots, and provide guidance to younger players was invaluable. Whitman's efforts were acknowledged with an All-League Honorable Mention.

Junior, Forward, Alyson Boyd (CIFSS Division 1 All-Team, All-League Player) contributed significantly, recording a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the championship game.

Junior, Guard, Ebony Taylor-Smith's sharpshooting and defensive tenacity earned her All-League Player honors. In a crucial playoff game against Mira Costa, she contributed 20 points, including six three-pointers, highlighting her offensive prowess.

Overcoming Challenges

The Eagles faced a challenging schedule, competing against four of the top 20 teams in California and three of the top 25 nationally. They also dealt with illnesses and the typical rigors of a demanding season. Despite these obstacles, the team navigated the ups and downs with resilience and determination.

Looking Ahead

The future of Rancho Christian girls’ basketball looks promising. With a strong foundation in place, the program aims to continue its growth and gain more recognition. The coaching staff is excited about the incoming freshmen and the development of current players, emphasizing the importance of preparation, listening to coaches, and striving for success.

As the Eagles look to the future, the program remains committed to building on this season's achievements and continuing to foster a culture of excellence and resilience.

A Message to Seniors

To the graduating seniors (Jasmine Pho, Belle Reams, Hailey Whitman & Julia Wilson), Coach Williams expressed deep appreciation: “They are part of the foundation and have set the bar high. Their legacy is creating a championship culture. We hope they remember the lessons from coaching—it wasn't just about basketball. These lessons will benefit them in college and future challenges. They are always welcome to come back and mentor the next generation.”

Thank you to our coaches, players, families and fans for an incredible season! We look forward with anticipation to the 2025-2026 season! GO EAGLES!
