Technology

We are excited to introduce Color Nooks to our High School this year. Nooks will facilitate classroom textbook needs as well as downloadable hand outs, newspaper articles and any other reading materials that our teachers make available to them. This year we also introduce Sony Readers to our 8th Grade students – all this in an effort to offer the latest technology. Read more about Nooks and Sony Readers.

Computer Lab
We have a 24 station computer lab to help students learn more about the world and technology around them. They have access to the latest in the Microsoft Office suite of products as well as safe, filtered, and secure access to the Internet. RCS believes that technology is a vital part of a student’s educational experience in this day and age, and we are striving to ensure that every student has the opportunity to use the latest in computing technology in the classroom.

Students in grades K-5 work on PowerPoint projects, Word documents and other Microsoft applications which coincides with grade level Social Science, English, and Science assignments. For example students work on Science projects, student newspapers, California State notebooks, and Virtual Tours of historic sites.  There is also opportunities for students to take AR tests before and after school on scheduled days and times.  Check with the Main Office for details.

Students in grades 6-8 are given the opportunity to take a computer essentials course where they learn Microsoft applications, develop web based and other computer based research skills which will equip them to be successful students in all subjects.

Students in grades 9-12 can use the computer lab to work on assignments, access on-line library resources, and have the opportunity to take computer based courses as well.

Accelerated Reader
We utilize Accelerated Reader, the world’s most widely used reading software, Accelerated Reader. Each students’ reading practice is personalized  to their current level. Parents & teachers can manage all reading activities including read to, read with, and read independently. Qe are very privileged to offer the full range of AR tests at every level of reading. Students can take AR tests during class time with their teacher, with the help of volunteer parents, or during one of the scheduled times before and after school.

Accelerated Reader Online
Parents can view their student’s reading progress, quiz results, and bookshelves online. Just visit the AR login page where you can input you username and password. If you don’t have a username or password, please contact Bob Swedberg.

Parents and students can now use Accelerated Reader’s iPhone & iTouch App to follow tthe reading status of our school. Please follow these instructions to view the RCS AR Widget: Visit the App Store, then launch the App and insert this code: RCCS-JY5

For more information about our AR program contact our Elementary Vice Principal, Bob Swedberg.

Electronic Readers
We utilize Electronic Readers for all of our high school students like the Sony Reader and the Nook. At RCHS we seek to provide our students with the best literature possible, including original sources.  Because we are not textbook driven, we have discovered that electronic readers provide a perfect resource for students to be able to access a wide variety of texts.
