Rancho Christian high school students are involved in many different activities throughout the year. Here are some of the highlights:
High School Catalina Island Retreat
At the beginning of each new school year, Rancho Christian’s high school students have the opportunity to visit Catalina Island and grow closer to God, their peers, and to learn more about themselves. The retreat takes place at InterVarsity’s Campus by the Sea is an important part of the Rancho high school experience.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Students are encouraged to experience God through the beauty of creation that surrounds them. Hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming and star-gazing are all fun activities in which students can see God’s hand at work.
The retreat has regular chapel times that include a guest speaker and student-led worship. These times are not meant to simply give students something to think about, but rather to challenge each student to deepen their relationship with God. Each night, students are also led in a discussion surrounding the day’s experiences and the challenges laid before them by the speaker.
Each year, students also enjoy class competition through a variety of events and games, that create a healthy bond among each class of students. By being placed at the beginning of the year, students are able to create lasting bonds of friendship with their fellow students, as well as with the high school’s faculty.
Operation Christmas Child
Students annually participate in this global outreach project that delivers hundreds of thousands shoeboxes, filled with needed supplies and treats, to impoverished children around the world. Student go to OCC’s regional distribution center to help assemble and package the boxes prior to their distribution. This outreach opportunity is one of the ways that students are taught and shown how to participate in the work of God.
High School Ski/Snowboard Trip
Each Winter, our high school students enjoy taking a trip to the mountains for a day of snowboarding, skiing, and sledding. This day-trip happens upon the completion of the first semester, on the Friday ending finals week. Students enjoy this time with their friends and are able to recharge their batteries for the second semester.
