RCMS Newsletter

Principal’s Message
Dear Parents,

Each year about this time, the elementary and middle school faculty and staff find themselves spending a great deal of time encouraging and helping students to obey RCS rules, especially in the areas of proper behavior and appearance. Most of the attention is drawn to dress code, hair styles, make up and in some instances boys and girls showing improper attention toward each other.

Anytime we deal with rules of this nature we take great care to be sure that we are being consistent and fair with each individual. At the same time we do not want to convey to the students that we are being legalistic, that is being bound to the letter of the law as opposed to the spirit of the law. So often in these instances the student’s response helps us to do the right thing because of their level of remorse and repentance. Our goal, when we need to issue discipline is to reconcile the individuals involved. That is what God did for us, He sent His Son Jesus to be our reconciliation. “And through him, to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Colossians 1:20

Our God is a holy God. He is a God of justice. He is a God of truth and integrity. We begin to see when we consciously apply God’s standards and principles how much we are loved and cared for. We begin to see the simple principles of obeying those in authority, because of the love and the desire to be reconciled.

The law was put into place to remind us of what sin was, however the law could not include every tiny detail. In our sin nature we make attempts to circumvent the law and claim the Bible does not say anything about it, so it is okay for me to be involved in something questionable. We try to get away with things, often like our students who tend to have many excuses, depending on the situation. Ultimately, it comes down to us being obedient and loving. When all else fails these two basic character traits will always bring success.

As we humbly go about training your children, teaching them to be obedient and loving, pray for us. In some instances we have daily contact with many children and as fair and consistent as we seek to be, we do not always get it right. At the same time, continue to teach and train your children at home the important principles of obedience and love. I know that God will bless our efforts as we partner together to equip servants of Christ.

Uniform Exchange Sale
Gently used uniform sale update:
Thank you to all of our RCS families that have participated in this program. The uniforms that have been turned in either for credit voucher or donation helped our December 2009 sale to be a success. We were able to contribute
$ 1010.00 into our school’s scholarship fund, 54 families came to the sale and used $920.00 in credit vouchers alone. We continue to accept uniforms throughout the year at the elementary office. This is a wonderful blessing to many and this sale cannot exist without your help.
Mark Your Calendars
Our next gently used uniform sale will be held on Monday & Tuesday, March 22-23.We are in need of volunteers for sale dates, if interested please contact Tracy Springford@ tracy.springford@gmail.com or Bea Welch @steveandbea1@verizon.net
Please turn in uniforms for voucher credit before sale dates. We are not able to accept uniform turn-in or issue credit vouchers on the day of the sale. Thank you for your support in making this program a success.

The theme this year is “Our Foundation and Maker is God”: based on Hebrews 11:10: “For he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” Although it is encouraged to keep with the theme, in order for students to have the opportunity to receive an award, non-themed pieces will be considered for the “Best of Show” ribbon. I hope you can join us in celebrating creativity. Each class may enter two works of art.

Purity Video
One of the major challenges we face is to train our students to have the strength to say no to the influence of their culture. This is especially true as it relates to sexual purity and a lifestyle that is wholesome and honoring to God. As Christian Educators we want to partner with parents and provide the right support in this area. We will be showing a Purity Video to the 8th grade students on Wed. 3/17 during the school day. We have scheduled an evening to make this video available for parents to preview on Tues. 3/9 @ 6pm in the elementary assembly room.
